Dr. Marcia A. Stewart

Dr. Marcia Stewart is Manager of the Quality Assurance Operations of the Joint Board of Teacher Education (JBTE), School of Education, University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona. Her experience spans several levels of the Caribbean education system with major emphasis on teacher education, programme evaluation and higher education quality assurance. Dr. Stewart’s work across the Caribbean has included leadership in the development of the Associate Degree in Teacher Education in Belize, guidance to the Turks and Caicos Islands and the Cayman Islands in developing their first indigenous teacher education programmes. She also led the process of Jamaican teachers colleges’ transition from diploma granting to degree granting. Dr. Stewart is a member of the Belize Board for Teacher Education, the CARICOM Taskforce on Teacher Education, and the Commonwealth Secretariat’s Working Group on Teacher Qualifications & Professional Recognition. She is a Commissioner of the CARICOM Human Resource Development (HRD) Commission. Inter alia, Dr. Stewart steered the establishment of the Belize Teaching Service Commission, was lead consultant in the IDB/Government of Belize project to evaluate and develop a strategy for a comprehensive teacher education system and a structured career path for teachers, and lead consultant for the development of an appraisal system for academic staff of the Cyril Potter College of Education, Guyana. She is Chairman of the Board of Management for the Queens Preparatory School and the Sandhurst Basic School.
