Mrs. Sharon Reid

Mrs. Sharon Reid has been an educator for the past thirty five (35) years.  She has taught at Glenmuir High School and St. Andrew High School for Girls where she was appointed Vice Principal in 1995 and Principal since September 2000. Mrs. Reid received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and History with honours at the University of the West Indies (UWI); the Diploma in Education from the UWI with distinction in teaching practice; and the Master of Science in Educational Leadership with distinction from the Central Connecticut State University in the USA.

Mrs. Reid was awarded the inaugural and prestigious Lasco Principal of the Year Award for 2006.  She is currently the Immediate Past President of the Jamaica Association of Principals of Secondary Schools and a Past President of the Caribbean Association of Principals of Secondary Schools.

Inspired by her vision of transforming St. Andrew High to be an international model for education, Mrs. Reid has pioneered the rehabilitation and refurbishing of the school plant and infrastructure. Her initiatives include expanding the educational facilities; building a cafeteria, refurbishing the administrative block, creating a garden theatre and the Cecelio Park as well as establishing a school bookshop and the first purpose built school museum in Jamaica. Two signal achievements have been the inclusion of designated offices for the Parent Teachers’ Association and the SAHS Foundation/Old Girls Association. These achievements demonstrate her profound understanding of the importance of the involvement of all stakeholders in an exemplary educational institution.

The school has attained a consistent level of academic excellence under Mrs. Reid’s leadership because of her deliberate and relentless management of the delivery of instruction. In that regard, she has focused seriously on the use of technology to enhance the teaching/learning process. This technology thrust has been significantly strengthened by the introduction in 2013 of the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) initiative at all grade levels; another first at any secondary institution in Jamaica.  Mrs. Reid piloted the development of a Balanced Scorecard strategic plan as well as Curriculum Guides for Grades 7-9. She spearheaded the establishment of the St. Andrew High School Foundation to raise funds for the continued development of the institution.

Mrs. Reid is an avid Christian and served as organist for her church for some thirty (30) years.  She is currently a Sunday School Teacher at the Church of the Transfiguration. She is married to Donovan and has two adult children.
