Programme Description<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Leadership and School Policy (LSP) programme is designed to introduce participants to sixteen policies developed and\/or endorsed by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information (MoEYI) specifically to guide leadership practices in public schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Programme Objectives<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Leadership and School Policy (LSP) programme is designed to be delivered online to attain the following outcomes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. to expose school leaders to the strategic direction of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information<\/li>
  2. to create learning opportunities for school leaders to analyse MoEYI policies to guide their leadership practices, decisions and dispositions<\/li>
  3. To strategically guide school leaders through the phases of policy development, implementation and monitoring.<\/li><\/ol>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

    Admission Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The programme is open to all principals and vice principals of all public and independent early childhood, primary and secondary level schools, as well as Education Officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Programme Delivery<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    This online course is asynchronous in delivery and can be accessed through the College\u2019s Learning Management System.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Programme Structure<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    This programme consists of two levels each addressing key policies and other conceptual ideas. It is administered over a period of four weeks with appropriate breaks between the two courses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Level One<\/strong><\/td>Overview<\/strong><\/td><\/tr>
    Introduction to Policy<\/td>This module provides participants with a basic understanding of policy while exploring the underlying principles of policy development in Jamaica.<\/td><\/tr>
    Security and Safety Policy Guidelines
    <\/td>    		This module examines some of the factors that contribute to violence in schools while providing strategies to address emerging issues that impact the security and safety provisions in the school.<\/td><\/tr>
    Dress and Grooming Policy Guidelines<\/td>This module explores the Dress and Grooming Policy Guidelines developed that public education institutions are required to use to inform the development of a Student Dress Code based on their current culture and context.<\/td><\/tr>
    K to 13 Strategy Policy Framework<\/td>This module provides an overview of the K to 13 strategy implementation framework which facilitates the seamless transition of students across grade levels.<\/td><\/tr>
    National Policy on Re-integration of School-age Mothers<\/td>This module explores the procedures guiding the re-integration of school-age mothers into the formal school system.<\/td><\/tr>
    National Mathematics Policy<\/td>This module explores key features of the national Mathematics Policy with a view to supporting its implementation across all educational levels.<\/td><\/tr>
    Field Trip Policy<\/td>This module exposes participants to the imperative guidelines and procedures to be followed before and after school engage in field trips.<\/td><\/tr>
    Special Education Policy<\/td>This module explores student exceptionalities and various ways of accommodating students with special needs in the mainstream classroom.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
    Level Two<\/strong><\/td>Overview<\/strong><\/td><\/tr>
    School Policy Formulation and Implementation<\/td>This module explores the importance of developing clear policies and procedures to guide school processes.<\/td><\/tr>
    Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Education Policy<\/td>This module explores the guiding principles behind the successful implementation of sustainable Information and Communication Technology (ICT) frameworks in the Jamaican educational context.<\/td><\/tr>
    Safety Guidelines for Contact Sports<\/td>This module examines the benefits of contact sports and the guidelines in place for students\u2019 protection and safety while engaged in these activities.<\/td><\/tr>
    Policy for Non-Mandatory Fees<\/td>This module introduces participants to the various sources of funding in public educational institutions while examining funding arrangements for secondary and primary schools.<\/td><\/tr>
    Management of Substance Misuse in Schools<\/td>This module explores the procedures for managing the misuse of substance by students, teachers and other members of the school community.<\/td><\/tr>
    Records and Information Management Policy<\/td>This module explores the Records and Information Management (RIM) Policy and the specific guidelines to ensure effective implementation of the policy across the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).<\/td><\/tr>
    Management of Hazardous Materials and Waste<\/td>This module examines the different types of hazardous materials, equipment and substances used, as well as hazardous wastes generated in educational institutions.<\/td><\/tr>
    Curriculum Implementation Teams<\/td>This module explores four aspects of the curriculum which may be reviewed during the process of planning for curriculum implementation.<\/td><\/tr>
    Public Procurement Act and Regulation<\/td>This module introduces participants to the fundamentals of the Public Procurement Act.<\/td><\/tr>
    National Guidance and Counselling Policy<\/td>This module explores the governing principles of the National Guidance and Counselling Policy.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

    Keriffe Clark<\/h4><\/a><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

    Programme Officer<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

    Keriffe Clark is responsible for managing the implementation of the College\u2019s operational plan through the successful delivery of programmes and initiatives of the National College.<\/strong> He obtained a distinction for his Master of Education degree in Curriculum Development with a research emphasis on teacher development and supervision.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
