Dr. Maurice D. Smith

Maurice D. Smith received his professional training at the Mico University College.  Having earned a 4.0 GPA, he is an honours graduate of both the Northern Caribbean University and the Nova Southeastern University where he pursued bachelors and masters degrees in Behavioral Sciences and Teaching and Learning.  He is a Jamaica 2010 Fulbright Scholar who has earned a Doctor of Education [with high commendation] in educational leadership and policy from Howard University.

Dr. Smith has served in a number of capacities from Counsellor, Deputy Principal, Principal, Education Officer and Lead – School Governance [Education Transformation Team in the Ministry of Education and is credited with the establishment of Belmont Academy; Jamaica’s first Centre of Excellence]. Having been previously engaged as a Management Consultant in the Ministry of Education, in 2013 he was named Principal Director of the National College for Educational Leadership [NCEL].

He is a certified Performance Coach and a Commonwealth Professional Fellow in Education, has traveled extensively presenting papers at both local and international conferences in the areas of School Supervision and Educational Leadership. He is a well sought after motivational speaker and is the recipient of several awards for his contribution to education and youth development.
